Intermediate level training lasts a minimum of two years. As well as completing units of training in general duties, pain, obstetrics and paediatrics, you will undertake three month blocks of intensive care medicine, cardiothoracic anaesthesia and neurosurgical anaesthesia. You will also work towards the final FRCA examination, which is required in addition your workplace training to be issued with the intermediate level training certificate.

Training Overview 

We are working to update this flowchart with the recent curriculum changes. Please refer to the updated Intermediate Level blueprint in the interim.

Final FRCA 

The final FRCA examination includes a written and oral examination. The written includes both MCQ/SBA and short answer questions, and the viva is covers both basic sciences and clinical anaesthesia. Please refer to the RCoA website for details of dates and the application process.
